The extraordinary new musical from three-time Academy Award-winner Stephen Schwartz ‘The Prince of Egypt’, based on the 1998 DreamWorks animation of the same name, will play a limited engagement at London’s Dominion Theatre from February 2020.
Featuring the Academy Award-winning, chart-topping song ‘When You Believe’, and the well-known ‘Deliver Us‘, alongside 10 new songs written by Stephen Schwartz, ‘The Prince of Egypt’ is an exhilarating, powerful and joyous celebration of belief and the human spirit.
With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) and a book by Philip LaZebnik (Mulan and Pocahontas), the production will be directed by Scott Schwartz (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), and will feature choreography from Sean Cheesman (So You Think You Can Dance). Set design is by Kevin Depinet, costume design by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting design by Mike Billings, sound design by Gareth Owen, projection by Jon Driscoll, illusions by Chris Fisher, orchestrations by August Eriksmoen, musical supervision and arrangements by Dominick Amendum, musical direction by Dave Rose and casting by Jim Arnold CDG.
Luke Brady (Sweeney Todd) and Liam Tamne (The Light in the Piazza, Spamilton, The Rocky Horror Show, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Wicked) will lead the cast as Moses and Ramses respectively, with Christine Allado (Hamilton, In The Heights) as Tzipporah and Alexia Khadime (Wicked, The Lion King, Les Misérables, The Book of Mormon) as Miriam. Further casting is to be revealed.
The story is an adaptation of the Book of Exodus, following the life of Moses, from his growing up as an Egyptian Prince, to his leading the Israelites out of Egypt. The film, which featured the voices of Ralph Fiennes, Sandra Bullock, Patrick Stewart and Helen Mirren, was nominated for 15 awards, winning a Critics Choice Award for Best Animated Feature.
The production will mark the British premiere of this musical, which previously ran at Theatreworks in Silicon Valley, California, in 2017, where it won the 2019 Regional Theatre Tony Award, with a European premiere at the Fredericia Teater in Denmark the following year.
‘The Prince of Egypt’ is produced by DreamWorks Theatricals (a division of Universal Theatrical Group), Michael McCabe and Neil Laidlaw.
‘The Prince of Egypt’ will run at the Dominion Theatre for 32 weeks, from 5th February 2020 to 12th September 2020.
Tickets will go on sale at 10am on 3rd June.
