Hairspray‘ To Embark on 2020 UK and Ireland Tour

‘Baltimore, 1962. Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with big hair and an even bigger dream: to dance her way onto national TV, and into the heart of teen idol Link Larkin. Tracy’s audition makes her a local star and soon she is using her new-found fame to fight for integration. But can she win equality – and Link’s heart – without denting her ‘do?’

The international smash hit musical comedy ‘Hairspray‘ is heading back out on tour around the UK and Ireland in 2020, playing venues in Manchester, Bradford, Blackpool, Northampton, Aylesbury, Birmingham, Malvern, Woking, Liverpool, and Brighton, with further cities to be announced.

The production features a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Academy, Tony and Emmy Award-winning duo Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. Directed by Paul Kerryson, the musical features choreography by Drew McOnie, with lighting from Philip Gladwell and sound from Ben Harrison.

Based on John Waters’ 1988 film of the same name, the musical originally opened to rave reviews on Broadway in 2002, subsequently winning a total of 8 Tony Awards (including Best Musical) out of 13 nominations. The production opened at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre in 2007, winning 4 Olivier Awards (nominated for a record-setting 11), including Best New Musical.

In addition to national tours and numerous foreign productions, hot on the heels of two hugely successful UK and Ireland tours in 2015/2016 and 2017/2018, a second film adaptation was released in 2007, which starred John Travolta and Michelle Pfeiffer.

‘Featuring the hit songs ‘Welcome To The 60s’, ‘You Can’t Stop The Beat’, ‘The Nicest Kids in Town’ and many more,  don’t miss this irresistible feel-good show that is guaranteed to have you dancing the night away. Let your hair down and book now!’
