An equestrian and musical feast of entertainment that celebrates the birth and life of Queen Victoria!
2019 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Queen Victoria.
To celebrate this significant occasion, The BAFTA award-winning team behind the Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations (voted Best Live Event of 2016) will stage ‘The Pageant’ at this year’s Royal Windsor Horse Show.
This 90-minute extravaganza will recreate 19th century Great Britain and the reign of Queen Victoria in the shadow of the floodlit Windsor Castle, bringing together memorable and exciting events from this golden age of discovery, encompassing everything from Elgar, the Music Hall, Gilbert and Sullivan, Charles Dickens, rail travel, the Industrial Revolution and much more.
Compered by Alan Titchmarsh MBE and filled with music throughout, spectators will enjoy an outdoor theatrical production involving a 600 strong troupe of artists, dancers and participants, in addition to over 400 horses and 30 carriages, and several international acts travelling to Windsor Castle specifically for ‘The Pageant’.
Alongside The Household Cavalry and The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery will be the Czikos from Hungary, the acrobatic and daring Land of Fire Display from Azerbaijan, Pipes & Drums, dancers from the music halls, performers from Gilbert & Sullivan Operas and a Balmoral Dressage Quadrille. Further details of the acts will be announced closer to the time.
Royal Windsor Horse Show – which celebrated 75 years in 2018 – has grown in size and international importance since its inaugural event in 1943, finding its beginnings as a means of raising funds for the war effort. Now encompassing a huge variety of equestrian sport, it is now the only show in the UK to host international competitions in Showjumping, Dressage, Driving and Endurance, unique in the breadth of its appeal.
The event joins the ‘Pageant Series’ at Royal Windsor Horse Show, which over the years has included All The Queen’s Horses (2002), Windsor Castle Royal Tattoo (2008 to 2011), The Diamond Jubilee Pageant (2012) and The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration (2016).
‘The Pageant’ will take place in the evenings following Royal Windsor Horse Show, in the private grounds of Windsor Castle, on 9th, 10th and 11th May 2019.
All Pageant ticket holders will be able to enter the Royal Windsor Horse Show from 3pm onwards and enjoy the international action and extensive shopping village, with many cafés, bars, restaurants and food outlets featuring.
The two tickets types available are General Seating (a reserved seat in the west or south grandstands) and Windsor Enclosure (a reserved seat in the covered Queen’s stand, offering excellent views of the performance with a bar and bistro area), the perfect choice for a special evening out with family and friends.
Tickets for ‘The Pageant’ can be purchased online, or via the box office on 0844 581 0755. Local Windsor residents can purchase their tickets through the Windsor Information Centre, located in Windsor Royal Shopping, or by telephone on 01753 743589.
