FEATURED: ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, Playhouse Theatre

Fiddler on the Roof‘, Playhouse Theatre

“Old traditions and young love collide in this joyous and timely celebration of life. Tevye’s daughters’ unexpected choice of husbands opens his heart to new possibilities, as his close-knit community also feel winds of change blowing through their tiny village”.

Direct from its sold-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, Olivier and Tony award winning director Trevor Nunn’s (Travesties) five star revival of classic musical ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ transfers to the West End’s Playhouse Theatre for a strictly limited run.

‘Fiddler on the Roof’ follows poor milkman and patriarch Tevye, a man torn between clinging to his Jewish traditions, and to embracing change, all the while trying to find suitable matches for his five daughters.

The musical features music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and a book by Joseph Stein. This transfer will mark the show’s first return to the West End since 2007.

The musical’s iconic score features such well-known songs as ‘Tradition’, ‘Matchmaker, Matchmaker’, ‘Sunrise, Sunset’ and ‘If I Were a Rich Man’, and features the original choreography of Jerome Robbins.

The production features choreography by Matt Cole, set design by Robert Jones, lighting design by Tim Lutkin, sound design by Gregory Clarke, orchestrations by Jason Carr, musical supervision and direction by Paul Bogaev, costume design by Jonathan Lipman, and hair and makeup design by Richard Mawbey.

The show will see the Playhouse Theatre transform from a traditional proscenium arch, into an immersive space, in anticipation of this “shiveringly intimate chamber musical about family” (The Times).

Andy Nyman, currently starring as Tevye at the Menier Chocolate Factory, will reprise his role for the West End transfer, as will four-time Tony nominee Judy Kuhn in the role of  wife Golde.

They are joined by Nicola Brown (Chava), Harriet Bunton (Hodel), Dermot Canavan (Lazar Wolf), Stewart Clarke (Perchik), Joshua Gannon (Motel), Matthew Hawksley (Fyedka), Louise Gold (Yente) and Molly Osborne (Tzeitel).

Further casting will include Miles Barrow, Sofia Bennett, Philip Bertioli, Lottie Casserley, Elena Cervesi, Lia Cohen, Talia Etherington, Shoshana Ezequiel, Isabella Foat, Fenton Gray, James Hameed, Adam Linstead, Adam Margilewski, Robert Maskell, Benny Maslov, Robyn McIntyre, Gaynor Miles, Ellie Mullane, Tania Newton, Craig Pinder, Valentina Theodoulou and Ed Wade.

From 18th June, Olivier Award-winner Maria Friedman and Anita Dobson will take over the roles of Golde and Yente respectively.

‘Fiddler on the Roof’ will run at the Playhouse Theatre from 21st March.

  Now booking until 28th September.
